❃ Drifting through the humid forests and mangrove wetlands of Borneo, the proboscis monkey is one of the most instantly recognizable primates on Earth. Its most extraordinary feature is the pendulous, fleshy nose of the adult male, which hangs prominently over the mouth and can become even more pronounced with age. Their specialized digestive system allows them to feed heavily on leaves, young shoots, and unripe fruits that many other mammals struggle to digest. Living in social groups along waterways, they spend their days feeding and moving through the canopy before gathering near rivers at dusk. With its extraordinary nose, pot-bellied form, and remarkable swimming ability, the proboscis monkey is a living symbol of Borneo's vanishing wetlands.
