THE LONG-NOSED ACROBAT OF BORNEO

❃ Drifting through the humid forests and mangrove wetlands of Borneo, the proboscis monkey is one of the most instantly recognizable primates on Earth. Its most extraordinary feature is the pendulous, fleshy nose of the adult male, which hangs prominently over the mouth and can become even more pronounced with age. Males are considerably larger than females and carry reddish-brown coats, while their pale bellies and long limbs create a striking silhouette as they move through the forest canopy.

❃ That remarkable nose is not simply an unusual ornament. Adult males can produce loud, resonant calls in which the nose appears to amplify or deepen the sound, helping communicate across the dense vegetation. Proboscis monkeys are also excellent swimmers, an unusual ability among primates, and their partially webbed fingers and toes help them move through rivers and flooded forests. When threatened, they may plunge from branches directly into the water below, using their powerful limbs to escape.

❃ Proboscis monkeys live almost exclusively on the island of Borneo, favoring riverine forests, mangroves, peat swamps, and other wetland habitats. Their specialized digestive system allows them to feed heavily on leaves, young shoots, and unripe fruits that many other mammals struggle to digest. Living in social groups along waterways, they spend their days feeding and moving through the canopy before gathering near rivers at dusk. With its extraordinary nose, pot-bellied form, and remarkable swimming ability, the proboscis monkey is a living symbol of Borneo's vanishing wetlands.

When It Arrives

Your plush travels inside our satchel, and some designs may be vacuum-sealed to keep them protected and compact during their journey. Don’t worry if yours looks a little flattened when first unpacked — the filling is designed to bounce back and simply needs a little time and fluffing to take its full shape.

Bringing it back to form:

1. Remove it from the packaging as soon as it arrives — don’t leave it packed.

2. Give it a good fluff — gently knead the body and work the limbs, wings, ears, or tail to redistribute the filling.

3. Let it breathe. Most plush regain their full shape within 1–3 days, while larger or denser designs can take up to a week.

4. Smooth any flattened or creased fur with your fingers or a soft brush as it fluffs back up.

5. Want to speed things up? Use a hairdryer on low, warm heat, held about 20cm away. Keep it moving and use short bursts between fluffs. Never use high heat.

Plush make this journey every day and naturally bounce back after being unpacked. If yours still isn’t looking like itself after a week, write to us at support@mythicalwoods.com and we’ll make it right.

Care: Spot clean with mild soap. Air dry

Customer Reviews

Overall rating: 4.9 / 5 from 16 reviews.

Our two year old grandson is very fond of watching monkey nature videos, so he liked his long nosed monkey and gave his motorbike a ride on its back. As this was an expensive soft toy, it was a shame that there was a hole in the stitching on its back.
