THE OCEAN'S GIANT LIZARD

❃ Ruling the warm shallow seas of the Late Cretaceous, Mosasaurus was one of the largest marine reptiles ever to swim through Earth's ancient oceans. Its long, streamlined body, powerful tail, paddle-like limbs, and enormous jaws made it a formidable predator, while rows of sharp, conical teeth were perfectly suited for gripping slippery prey. Despite its fish-like silhouette, Mosasaurus was not a dinosaur but a giant marine lizard related to modern monitor lizards and snakes.

❃ Its jaws were built for more than simply biting. Mosasaurus possessed a flexible skull and additional jaw bones that allowed it to open its mouth exceptionally wide, helping it swallow large prey. It hunted fish, turtles, other marine reptiles, and even members of its own kind, using its muscular tail to generate powerful bursts of speed through the water. Some mosasaurs also had a second set of teeth on the roof of the mouth that helped grip and move struggling prey toward the throat.

❃ Mosasaurus lived in marine environments across much of the world during the final part of the Cretaceous Period, when high sea levels created extensive shallow inland seas. Fossils have been discovered on several continents, revealing how widely these giant predators were distributed. They disappeared alongside the non-avian dinosaurs at the end of the Cretaceous — leaving behind enormous jaws and scattered bones as reminders of an age when giant lizards ruled the prehistoric seas.

When It Arrives

Bringing it back to form:

1. Remove it from the packaging as soon as it arrives — don’t leave it packed.

2. Give it a good fluff — gently knead the body and work the limbs, wings, ears, or tail to redistribute the filling.

3. Let it breathe. Most plush regain their full shape within 1–3 days, while larger or denser designs can take up to a week.

4. Smooth any flattened or creased fur with your fingers or a soft brush as it fluffs back up.

5. Want to speed things up? Use a hairdryer on low, warm heat, held about 20cm away. Keep it moving and use short bursts between fluffs. Never use high heat.

I don’t think I realised how far it was travelling. I was quite worried it wouldn’t arrive before Christmas. The tracking said it needed repackaging on arrival. Not reassuring. When it did arrive, in time, thank you. I felt the quality was not as I’d hoped but if fluffed up a bit. My grandson was absolutely delighted - which is all that matters.
