THE POISONED JEWEL

❃ Hidden among the damp leaves of tropical forests, the poison dart frog is a tiny amphibian dressed in some of nature’s most astonishing colours. Brilliant blues, vivid yellows, fiery oranges, and deep reds can cover its smooth body, creating an appearance more like a jewel than a hunter. Those striking colours serve as a warning to predators, signaling that beneath the beautiful surface lies a powerful chemical defense.

❃ Its toxins are carried in the skin, where they can make a would-be predator think twice about making a meal of it. Some species possess extraordinarily potent alkaloids, while their toxicity in the wild is closely linked to the tiny arthropods they consume. Despite their diminutive size, poison dart frogs have turned vivid colour, chemical defense, and specialised skin into an remarkably effective survival strategy.

❃ Poison dart frogs inhabit the humid forests of Central and South America, living among leaf litter, moss, and low vegetation where moisture is essential to their survival. Many species care for their eggs and tadpoles in surprisingly attentive ways, transporting young to small pools of water hidden throughout the forest. Bright against the shadowed rainforest floor, these miniature amphibians are a reminder that some of the wild’s most formidable defenses come in remarkably small packages.

When It Arrives

Your plush travels inside our satchel, and some designs may be vacuum-sealed to keep them protected and compact during their journey. Don’t worry if yours looks a little flattened when first unpacked — the filling is designed to bounce back and simply needs a little time and fluffing to take its full shape.

Bringing it back to form:

1. Remove it from the packaging as soon as it arrives — don’t leave it packed.

2. Give it a good fluff — gently knead the body and work the limbs, wings, ears, or tail to redistribute the filling.

3. Let it breathe. Most plush regain their full shape within 1–3 days, while larger or denser designs can take up to a week.

4. Smooth any flattened or creased fur with your fingers or a soft brush as it fluffs back up.

5. Want to speed things up? Use a hairdryer on low, warm heat, held about 20cm away. Keep it moving and use short bursts between fluffs. Never use high heat.

Plush make this journey every day and naturally bounce back after being unpacked. If yours still isn’t looking like itself after a week, write to us at support@mythicalwoods.com and we’ll make it right.

Care: Spot clean with mild soap. Air dry

Customer Reviews

Overall rating: 5.0 / 5 from 12 reviews.

My 5 year old grandson loved his poison dart frog, noting that frogs benefit from sharing their poison with humans to stop the frog’s predators. He also loves the Richmond Tigers yellow and black colours.

For a creature that can kill you if your not careful, like the "poison dart frog", it can be quite adorable; even as a lifelike plushie, worth the wait
